Description
Who am I ?
My name is Nuno Neijenhuis, I am 19 years old and I live in the Netherlands, I graduated from the Herman Brood Academy last summer, which is a school for musicians. I studied Music Production.
Hobby's: Music production, piano, sports, travel.
What is my motivation to go on a mission?
I want to spend my time to help people that are living in difficult circumstances.
Why do you want to go on a mission now ?
I graduated from school last summer and I am making full time music now. But since I can make time available for a mission with SOS Chrétiens d'Orient, I think it is important to help people who need it and create a better environment for the people in the Middle East.
Why with the association SOS Chrétiens d'Orient ?
I discovered the association via a YouTube video of Drew Binksy in Syria. I was interested to help immediately. I did research about missions and the association and I heard a lot of good things about SOSCO, which is why I want to go on a mission with them.
What are you going to do? What are your expectations ?
I will work hard for the people, meet new people and discover a whole new culture. It is a new challenge that I want to face and I am hoping that we can make the best out of it.
Who is SOS Chrétiens d'Orient ?
SOS Chrétiens d'Orient is an association under the law of 1901 founded in 2013 following the seizure of Maaloula (Syria) by Ad Nosra jihadists. Since then, its teams have been working legally, 24 hours a day, in the heart of the Middle East's secure disaster zones, helping persecuted populations or those threatened with extinction.
In accordance with a strict protocol and strict security measures, volunteers are permanently seconded to the mission countries to provide concrete material aid and moral support. In its 6 years of existence, the association has already sent 2,200 volunteers.
The association responds to moral and material distress with action. Rebuilding houses in Syria, churches in Iraq, supporting the schooling of children in Cairo, visiting families who have been destroyed by the war and who have taken refuge in Lebanon, reviving businesses in the disaster areas of the Middle East.... The talents and skills of all are put to good use, the reactivity and the seriousness of the teams in permanent training are requested for a maximum efficiency.

Volunteers speak out
"Go! Give yourself up and shine! I don't know what Iraq will change in you, but it will not leave you unscathed. I wasn't looking for friends: I found a family. I wanted to put a stone in my life, I built a wall. I wanted to remember it, it's ingrained in me. Why? Because 4 months is a short time and in the intensity of this mission, everything is lived to the fullest, that's the maxim that you don't deviate from."
Adrien, volunteer in Iraq
"Our presence, our smile, our gestures comfort them and do them good. I met a Christian population in Egypt that is supportive, warm, welcoming and simple, but in a state of disarray. I brought them fear, to the extent of my small means.... and they gave it back to me a hundredfold."
Clarisse, volunteer in Egypt
Volunteering with SOS Chrétiens d'Orient
SOS Chrétiens d'Orient offers the possibility to carry out a short or long term humanitarian mission in the Middle East. Throughout the year, hundreds of volunteers relay to live an extraordinary experience with the Christians of the Orient. Rebuilding houses in Syria and churches in Iraq, supporting the schooling of children in Cairo, visiting families who have been destroyed by the war and who have taken refuge in Lebanon, reviving businesses in the disaster areas of the Middle East.... The talents and skills of all are put to good use, the reactivity and the seriousness of the teams in permanent training are requested for a maximum efficiency.
Each volunteer finances his or her return airfare. The daily expenses are fully covered by the association (except for personal expenses). Throughout the year, the association is the only one to offer a mission of a minimum duration of one and a half months, which allows us to reach a large public available for a very limited time.
Each volunteer in the field costs the association €1,100 per month. This includes comprehensive insurance, daily living expenses and the rental of the house.
This is why I need you today to finance my mission.
Describe your project goal
