• Building five cells, larger than the current ones, with shower and toilets
• Converting the current upper-gallery of our chapel in order to make it accessible to wheelchairs
• Refurnishing the common sanitary facilities
• Upgrading the cells
• Installing an elevator
• Providing a place for the infirmery

We will begin the work as soon as the funds will be gathered and the organization of the priory adjusted for this purpose: given that some ten sisters will need to move out of the area into another part of the building. Our wish is to begin in May 2021. The plans were drawn up by a professional architect and approved by him.

The Congregation of the Apostolic Sisters of Saint-John was approved as a religious institute of diocesan right since October 7th, 1993 by the Bishop of Autun, Chalon and Macon as well as legally recognized by decree since March 7th, 1994.

The sisters seek to live by the spirit of Saint John the Evangelist, and testify of the twofold commandment in the Gospel: a contemplative gaze on the Love of God and its incarnation in fraternal charity. They receive Mary as mother and live an apostolic life for the service of the Church.

They are located in France and in various parts of the world, responding to bishops’ request to serve their diocese.
The Apostolic Sisters of Saint-John established a priory in Burgundy (Semur-en-Brionnais) in 1992, when the diocese made available to them what used to be the minor seminary Saint-Hugues. The building had then been abandoned for 25 years. Since then, the sisters have made efforts occurring to the emergencies and financial means to renovate the priory Saint-Hugues , as part of the rich legacy of the Brionnais.

• The motherhouse which houses the services for the whole of the Congregation dispatched in the world (government, general accounting of the community, the Procure for the priories in mission…)

• The Novitiate which covers the formation of young sisters to prepare them for apostolic life in the various missions entrusted to us, in France and abroad: schools, nursing homes, caring of street children and young girls in rehabilitation from drugs, parishes, jails, human and Christian formation.

We are currently 32 sisters living in Semur-en-Brionnais : 7 novices, 1 postulant, and 24 perpetual professed sisters.

The priory is an imposing building located in Semur-en-Brionnais . Built in 1830, it first sheltered a minor seminary. In 1905, with the separation between Church and State in France, it became an annex building to the district asylum. It became once again a minor seminary from 1944 to 1968, and in the eighties, a rural family center.

You may know us already. Thanks to your support, we were able to finish the renovation of our facades. The building is a treasure in the region of the Brionnais that is characterized by the rich legacy of Cluny.
An increasing number of tourists and visitors make a stop to admire its beauty, which contributes to the charm of this peaceful and delightful village of Burgundy.

We need your help! Our Congregation is a begging order, which partly benefits from indemnities through some missions entrusted to us by the dioceses or through our own apostolic activities, as well as from donations received thanks to generous donors.

Our global project amounts to 267.300 € (tax and fees included). This is the following breakdown (excluding tax and fees):

• The provision and set-up of an elevator: 77.000 €
• The establishment of bedrooms and of a infirmery: 109.000 €
• The building of an upper- gallery in the chapel : 19.000 €
• The installation of new sanitary facilities: 16.000 €
• The rehabilitation and adaptation of hallways and other common parts : 8.000 €

We are working on finding other funds. What you are able to give will help us for the arrangement of medicalised rooms and infirmery.
